The coat of arms was originally approved for the 803d Tank Destroyer Battalion on 2 December 1942. It was redesignated for the 803d Tank Battalion on 22 September 1947. It was amended to add the Washington National Guard crest on 13 October 1948. It was redesignated for the 303d Armor Regiment on 27 March 1961. The insignia was amended to change the symbolism on 30 September 1969. It was redesignated for the 303d Cavalry Regiment effective 1 September 2005. It redesignation for the 303d Cavalry Regiment was rescinded and the insignia was reauthorized for the 303d Armor Regiment effective 1 September 2005.
